This Sunday, 6.February 2005, for the first time in Croatia two liberal parties, LIBRA- party of liberal democrats and Croatian Peoples Party, merged. The new party is called CPP - Liberal Democrats and is now the largest and strongest liberal option in Croatia.

This event opened a new path on Croatian political scene, the union of the parties sharing the same values, after years of fragmentation and divisions. The ones who took this path first are liberals, merged under the common ideas of individual liberties, freedom and market economy. The whole process began with the good cooperation and positive experiences these two parties had during their coalition governance from 2001.- 2004. In autumn 2004. they signed a coalition agreement, but due to the program similarities and understanding of Croatian political reality and highly fragmented liberal scene, they decided to strengthen their organisations and join forces. On this event CPP - liberal democrats presented their new declaration « Croatia can do it better and faster», which describes the true liberal view of Croatian future. The merger convention hosted respected international guests such as Annemie Neyts, the president of Liberal international, Graham Watson, the president of ALDE Group in EP, Johannes Lebech, vice president of ELDR and the leaders of other political parties in Croatia and the region.
