LYMEC Press releases
Graham Watson, Leader of the European Liberal Democrats and Roger Albinyana, President of LYMEC, today met with more than 25 young liberals who are standing at the elections for the European Parliament in June. Watson commented:

"European Liberal Democrats have a big opportunity to become the key player in the new elected European chamber with neither EPP nor PES likely to have an absolute majority ",

Stressing: "nevertheless, our main focus will always remain fighting for a more democratic, transparent and federal Europe by giving the power to the people". He continued "Liberal-Democrats are more needed than ever before because EPP and PES will not guarantee that Europe will get closer to its citizens".

Albinyana added that "the new ELDR Group after the EP elections will be much stronger and bigger. However, the enlargement of the Group with new members especially coming from the EPP cannot dilute the liberal values for which the Group has always been fighting".

The gathering brought together young candidates from Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands and the UK.

The young candidates will take part this afternoon in the Rally that the European Liberal-Democrats have organised at the ‘Sky Hall’ of Brussels National Airport. A press pack with details of each of the young candidates will be provided to all journalists at the Rally. This event will bring together the leaders and top candidates of the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party (ELDR) and will officially launch the campaign for the European Parliament Elections.
