We as young liberals have clear priorities for the EU budget. We want to continue the path of lowering subsidies where they are not future-oriented. We want to promote growth, innovation, energy security, environmental sustainability and transport.

LYMEC wants the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to be phased out and then put focus on other priorities such as climate change, energy supply, research and innovation.  LYMEC favours an increase in public and private research and development in support of sustainable development technologies, notably renewable energy (wind power, solar energy, hydropower), second generation biofuels and hydrogen as well as in the field of nuclear waste management and fusion energy.

In today’s globalised world the challenges for young people are changed. It calls for broad understanding of cultures and learning other languages. Mobility as a way for more cultural understanding is one way to combat racism and xenophobia. Although the process of reunifying Europe started to become a reality in 2004, young people from many European countries still face unnecessarily long, expensing and bureaucratic procedures, when travelling to the EU on vacations or for studies. Visa regimes negatively affect the youth mobility on the European continent and are an obstacle to the birth of a European civil society. We, as young liberals, stand for freedom of movement within our continent. Borders have become less and less important and in order to build a truly European citizenship, as well as to build more democratic and stable societies on our continent, people should have the opportunity to travel and study abroad. LYMEC welcomes the different exchange programs developed by the European Commission. At the same time we realize that it is only a very small amount of people who takes part in actions as for instance the Erasmus exchange program for university students. If we want to create real European citizenship, the European Union and its member states have to dedicate more resources to enlarge the current exchange programs. LYMEC wants to see an increased number of young people working or studying abroad.

We hope that you will take active part in our campaign to change priorities on the EU budget. We will have a common street action on the 16th of May at 15 o’clock. Take a look around this site and find out more about young liberals priority for a new EU budget and what our young candidates running for the European Parliament elections is thinking about this topic.
